FRIENDS ONLY

Posted on 2008.06.20 at 15:49

I should have posted this a looooong time ago. But, in case no one has guessed, this journal has been friends locked for a while. The last non-friend viewable post is the DH reaction post. Everything since then has been locked away. Post a comment here if you would like to friend me and have me friend back.

Ok. Time for Book 7 ranting and fangirling. Better late than never, eh? Massive spoiler warning. Though, if you haven't read Deathly Hallows by now and don't want to be spoiled, you really shouldn't be on the internets... Also, this is super ultra long.

I updated the spoofy spoiler!

Click for new and improved spoof comic!

And just in time. Book 7 comes out tomorrow at midnight. For the first (and I suppose last, since it's the last book) time ever I will most likely be going to the book store at midnight for one of those HP party book release things. I should probably wash my Slytherin shirt for the occasion.

So I actually broke down and did a pre-order for the next Harry Potter book. Borders was having a special where you get 40% off, so I thought what the hell. I mean, I've been a complete and total geek about it for well over a month now...

Tom and I have been watching Twin Peaks lately. Finished the first season and are almost halfway through the second. Weird shit. Great, though. Love it. Just fucking weird.

I have an Everclear song stuck in my head. Just one line. On loop. Over...and over...and over...

I need Harry Potter icons. Why don't I have any yet? I should get some Twin Peaks icons, too. Jesus Christ, I'm a fucking dork.

Between the lines

I know I'm not the only one, but Jesus fucking Christ

Hey, lj, stop being a bitch. Why not let me make a post that's more than one line in length?

You scored as Scientific Atheist, These guys rule. I'm not one of them myself, although I play one online. They know the rules of debate, the Laws of Thermodynamics, and can explain evolution in fifty words or less. More concerned with how things ARE than how they should be, these are the people who will bring us into the future.

New(ish) theme

So, I was tired of the old layout. The new theme is actually not that new at all, and is taken directly from my last theme on my deadjournal. There it was "Version Sleeping Mars" and here it shall be dubbed "Version Sleeping Prophet". Aheh. Oh, and I'd like to think of it as not being "pink" as being "dusty rose"... Since...you know...I hate pink. >_>

Anyway, the guy lounging on the couch on my background and peeking out of my current default icon is Kashino Rei from the manga Mars. A friend once (back when we had yet to be friends and had just met, actually) pointed out that I look a great deal like Rei. I guess I'd have to agree. If there was one manga/anime character I look most like, it would probably be Rei from Mars. Well, when the artist gives him blue eyes instead of brown. The colored versions of his manga incarnation vary on that... :/

And yes, I realize he's a male and I'm a female, so it's rather odd that I'd say I look most like him instead of some female character. But now you see one of the reasons I tended to cosplay male characters in the past. Female anime/manga characters don't usually look like me. Or, me like them, I suppose. They are usually much shorter than I, have bigger boobs, or have strange hair/eye color. Rei has my hair color, my eye color (half the time, anyway), is probably about my height, and is lanky like me. I also tend to have my hair cut in the same style as his (unintentionally, I might add...), and we have similar facial features. He's like...boy-type me! Just add hot water!

Oh, and the current default icon as of this post is rather crappy, I know. It was made in MS Paint, since Farfarello doesn't have any better programs on him. I tried to download and use the free version of oC, but it doesn't work on Farf for some reason. Then again, it also didn't work on Alucard, so maybe it's just a Compaq thing, since that's what both machines are. Hm.

OMFG YAY

Like Christmas, this day also has MPD

True true, the goddesses may not have been celebrated on this exact date. But they were celebrated in spring, and Easter is (debatedly) named after either Eostre or Ostara. Sorry if I missed anything. Considering the multitude of different religious beliefs back in ancient times, I most likely am.

I'm gonna watch TMNT (my second time! woo!) with Tommy and eatch chocolate. How are you going to spend this multi-celebration day?

So, I'm currently working on my take-home essay test for Religious Elements in the Holocaust that was given to us last Weds and is due tomorrow. I spent the entire weekend playing the Oblivion game that was talked about in my last post. Yay for procrastination, eh?

Anyway, I wouldn't really be having trouble with this test, since I understand the material and most of it seems pretty straight-forward. Except that the first question, worth 60%, requires us to write a narrative of a scene where we (the individual student) are magically able to have dinner with three Holocaust theologians. We have to illustrate their views through dialogue. At first, I thought this sounded super ultra fun. Why not? I love writing stories! Yay stories! But after I sat down to actually start writing it, I realized a few problems... First of all, the question specifically states that we are having Friday Sabbath dinner with them. So, since I was not raised in a Jewish household, nor have I been thouroughly educated on Jewish customs down to what food is typically served when, I had to do some extra research on what is traditionally served at such a meal. Hey, I'm a stickler for authenticity. Which brings me to my biggest problem: I have no fucking clue how to characterize these guys. I mean, these men are different from characters existing inside my head. They're real! And I have issues about turning real people into characters for fictional stories. Just doesn't sit right with me. But I'm trying.

Anyway... Some good news as far as tests: I made a B on my latest Buddhism test. Woo! Would have made an A, but I wasn't clear enough in what I was saying in the last essay portion of it, so I lost a few precious points there. Poo. The rest of the questions I scored very well on, though. ^_^

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a video game that has consumed not only my soul, but the soul of three others in my house and one other outside it. At first, we only had a copy of it for the 360, so we all had to take turns on it (which was a very difficult thing to do considering it's something you want to spend several uninterrupted hours on at a time), but now we also have it for the PS3. So, Pat and Ricky take turns with it on the 360 upstairs, while Tommy, our non-housemate Josh, and myself switch off on the PS3 downstairs. It's crack. Fuck, worse than crack. And it seriously does seem to feed on one's soul. You become a slave to it.

Main premise of the game is that the emperor's sons have just been killed by assassins and shortly after you meet the emperor (under rather strange circumstances--the jail cell you start the game off in turns out to house the emergency exit for the palace), the emperor dies by the hands of assassins as well. But, right before he died, he entrusted you with his royal necklace and a quest to find his illegitimate heir. He trusts you because he supposedly dreamt about you while having prophetic dreams of his fast-approaching fate.

While that's your main quest, most of the game is spent doing other random quests, joining guilds, stealing, making potions using random plants and animal flesh, learning spells, arena fighting, assassinating people, and shitloads of other fun things. You do some things more than others depending on what kind of character you want to build.

That's one of the really neat things with this game. You've got several races you can choose from, each one having its own strengths and weaknesses as well as physical characteristics. You also have a LOT of freedom with customizing what the character looks like. Kind of like with Sims 2 and the face builder. Then, after you pick your race, gender, and appearance, you also get a birth sign which will give you certain powers/abilities/boosts/etc, and a class (like thief, assassin, mage, etc). You can even custom-make your own class, and name the new custom. Like Ricky's a Jedi, Pat's a Badass.

My character is one of the leopard people, because they have the ability to see in the dark. Such a thing is ultra super handy if you want to be an assassin and thief--which I do. His custom class is Bad Kitty, where I wanted him to have a focus on blades, sneakiness, agility, and certain magics. He can conjure a skeleton or a scamp (like a little goblin thing) to help him fight. So far. I hope to obtain even more summons later on. Also, he was just invited to join the Dark Brotherhood, which is the assassin’s guild. In order to get invited to join, you have to murder someone in cold blood--killing bandits on the road or fighting in the arena don't count--and then a member of the Dark Brotherhood visits you when you sleep (because you need to sleep in the game to level up). To get myself invited, I waited until like midnight, broke into a random guy's house, snuck up to him while he slept, then murdered him. And then stole all his shit. :)

I love this game.
